Programs for Faculty and Staff sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Mission and Ministry include:
The Nineteenth Annotation Retreat is a nine-month program that adapts the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola for active people. Participants make a commitment to pray privately for thirty minutes or more each day, to meet weekly with a spiritual director, and to meet monthly as a group for dinner and discussion.
The Living the Ignatian Charism Seminar is a six-session seminar for those who have made the Nineteenth Annotation Retreat and wish to deepen their understanding of Ignatian spirituality and its relevance for Higher Education.
Offered in conjunction with the Center for Social Justice Research, Teaching and Service, the Kenya Immersion Program each summer offers twelve faculty and senior administrators the opportunity to spend two weeks in Kenya exploring the issues and realities of Africa. The Jesuits of Kenya assist us in visiting HIV/AIDS programs, refugee centers, elementary, secondary and higher educational institutions, and programs for street children. We stay in a Jesuit community and meet with a number of Jesuits and their colleagues as we explore a variety of social, political and educational issues. We conclude the program with a two-day excursion to the Masai Mara Game Preserve.
The Ignatian Tradition Seminar is a four-session seminar for new executive leadership of the University to familiarize them with the history, values and characteristics of Jesuit Higher Education.
The Advent Day of Recollection is a one-day, on-campus day of prayer and reflection for faculty and senior administrators. It is designed to assist those in the Christian tradition to prepare for the Christmas season.
The annual Lenten Reflection Series is a five-part series held in Dahlgren Chapel on late Wednesday afternoons in Lent to help Christians engage the themes of the Lenten journey. It is open to all members of the Georgetown community, as well as neighbors and friends. Recordings of the 2008 Lenten Reflection Series "Suffering and Ignatian Humanism" by Rev. Jesuit Heritage Week is a student-sponsored week of activities for the Georgetown community to help us explore and celebrate our Jesuit tradition. Educational, liturgical, artistic, and athletic events are offered to promote our values and identity. For more information visit the Jesuit Heritage Week website.
The Office of Mission and Ministry cosponsors a variety of Seminars and Lecture Series including the Pacem in Terris, and Nostra Aetatae Lecture Series. Recordings of the 2007 Lecture Series "What Happened at Vatican II" by Fr. John W. O'Malley, S.J. are available in the Archives.
In 2006 The Spirit of Georgetown Project was initiated by a group of students with a desire to clearly articulate the principles and values of our Jesuit tradition that make Georgetown such an inviting and distinctive educational community. Read more...
The new Calcagnini Contemplative Center is currently under development. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the center will house our student, faculty and alumni retreats for the various religious traditions represented by our University chaplaincies.
The Friends of St. Aloysius Gonzaga is a group of faculty and administrators who have participated in Georgetown University's Kenya Immersion Program. Having been moved by the commitment and the needs of the faculty and student of St. Aloysius Gonzaga High School for AIDS Orphans in the slum of Kibera in Nairobi, this group is committed to raising funds and providing resources to support the school.
